Summary
Learners will explore more of the detail and science around steering a crop through to a healthy harvest, will be hands on, learning how to safely use production machinery, spot diseases and pests and how to give and get the best through great teamwork.
Learners can also complete this programme as the first year of a New Zealand Apprenticeship.
Learning outcomes
Graduates will be able to:
- work as an effective member of a team including communication and interaction with team members and colleagues.
Graduates will be able to:
- carry out routine seasonal plant production tasks
- use orchard machinery for routine production tasks
- carry out routine crop harvesting
- demonstrate understanding of factors influencing plant growing cycles and basic soil science
- carry out routine maintenance tasks
- identify and report signs of weeds, plant pests, diseases, and disorders
- control weeds, plant pests and diseases.
