Summary

Learners will be able to identify, sow or lay turf, operate and maintain power tools and small machinery, learn to build basic timber structures and lay a small concrete pad.

Learners can complete this programme as the first year of a New Zealand Apprenticeship. 

There are 2-3 off job tutorial days.

Learning outcomes

Graduates will gain skills and experience to:

  • work as an effective member of a team including communication and interaction with team members and colleagues
  • demonstrate knowledge of workplace health and safety
  • assist with site set up for landscape work
  • describe the use of concrete and other hard surfaces, and prepare and lay a concrete pad
  • select timber for landscape work, and construct basic timber features
  • identify, select and plant plants, and establish turfgrass using seed or turf
  • demonstrate understanding of water flow and management, and prepare and lay drainage systems for landscape work
  • operate and maintain power tools and small machinery used in landscape work.
