Summary

Learners will gain the skills and understanding to step up into supervising, be able to lead and manage a team, ensuring quality, plant health and productivity at every step.

Learn how to manage, inspire and guide, and maintain high standards throughout the entire production process.

Learners can complete this programme as the second and third year of a New Zealand Apprenticeship.

This programme takes 22 months to complete and learners can start anytime.

Learning outcomes

Graduates will be capable of working in a self-managed capacity and may have some responsibility for the performance of others.

Graduates will be able to:

  • supervise and provide instruction to team members using a range of effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • implement and monitor nursery production operations to achieve production goals and standards. This may include:
    • quality standards and regulatory requirements
    • production goals
    • plant biology
    • nursery production including irrigation, managing agrichemicals, vehicle and machinery maintenance
    • nursery production schedules
    • plant management techniques to optimise production
    • crop protection activities for a range of nursery crops
    • environmental risk management, including integrated pest management
    • pack and dispatch of nursery products.
