Summary
Learners will be able to lay out a landscape site from drawings, construct timber and concrete features, lay brick and block and build retaining structures.
Learners will be able to lead a team, contributing to site specific health and safety compliance requirements and be able to carry out most landscape construction tasks.
This programme can be completed as the second half of a New Zealand Apprenticeship.
This programme takes 15 months and learners can start any time.
Learning outcomes
Graduates will have the following skills.
Core unit standards:
- supervise and provide instruction to team members using a range of effective communication and interpersonal skills relevant to a role in landscape work
- prepare for construction of a landscape design from drawings
- carry out earthworks
- plan and construct timber structures
- prepare for and lay a range of hard surfaces
- demonstrate understanding of and lay sundry materials as hard surfaces.
Optional unit standards:
- install an irrigation system
- construct water features
- install lighting
- demonstrate understanding of plants, and identify plants for landscape work
- construct stone features
- construct landscape retaining structures
- construct brick or block features for landscape work
- construct reinforced concrete structures
- apply plaster coating to a brick and block wall for landscape work
- install rock as features
- erect metal features
- prepare and lay drainage systems for landscape sites
- manage hazard identification and control on plant and machinery.
