Summary

This programme sets learners up with the foundational knowledge and skills required to be safe on-farm and confidently undertake their role. It’s a great first step before an apprenticeship.

Learning outcomes

Topics include:

  • safe handling of livestock and behaviours
  • assisting with feeding
  • assisting during calving and/or lambing
  • fencing (installation and maintenance)
  • planting and caring of trees and shrubs
  • working a farm dog
  • understanding of beehives and the basic use of equipment.

Valuable additions to the programme include the safe handling of agri-chemicals and the option to add chainsaw/vehicle skills so learners can operate vehicles confidently and safely. These include:

  • Motorcycle
